To most of the current Fairburn crop, Cleggy is known more for his work off the field, who is an excellent clubman and works tirelessly on his tractor to get the field looking in excellent condition. Steve does not play as much as he used too, as he now umpires, but his career was a story in itself. Steves Fairburn career is not short of a few funny stories. He is the only man to send the opponents to sleep after his majestic, season-saving 6 not out (six) from 42 overs to prevent Fairburn being relegated in the 1990s.
