Operation Hoodie
Welcome to the Fairburn Cricket Club page dedicated to local charity Operation Hoodie.
Operation Hoodie is an appeal formed by Fairburn CC captain James Clegg, and was started in memory of Fairburn player Lee Doughty who tragically passed away due to Cancer in February 2007.
Operation Hoodie therefore aims to raise Cancer awareness particularly in youths whilst raise crucial funds for Cancer Research UK. This is achieved through the selling of a Cancer Research UK branded hoodie or "Operation Hoodie", with £6.50 of each sale being donated to Cancer Research UK.
The appeal was launched on November 5th 2007, and has already achieved considerable success, most notably being chosen by Yorkshire County Cricket Club as one of its chosen charities for 2008. The clubs playing staff (including Darren Gough) have purchased over 28 hoodies, and is testament to the clubs support of local charities.
Although Operation Hoodie is a general charity, the cricket theme has been extended with the charities partnership with Romida Sports (headed by ex-Yorkshire player Paul Hutchison) who are the charities hoodie supplier. England women cricketer Sarah Taylor is a sales rep, and has sold 62 hoodies to fellow players, whilst FCC's own Mark Abdy, Billy Weaver and Richard Johnson are part of the OH executive committee. Plans are afoot for the formation of an Operation Hoodie Charity Cricket Team.
