Profile
When not rubbing up sportsmen, Clegg is the opening Batsmen, Wicketkeeper and chief hypercondriac at Fairburn CC. Despite taking a hattrick with his first three balls in Cricket, Clegg rarely bowls, leading to his recent decision to take to the gloves. Joining the club as a 7 year old in 1993, Clegg began his Fairburn Career, aged 14 in the 2nd XI which reformed in 2000. In the 2nd XI, Clegg formed part of a successful opening partnership with Chris Dillerstone in a season where the 2nds were pipped to the 2001 LWRCL Division 3 title by Graziers. In that same season, Clegg showed his first team promise as he survived an early blow to the head to score a resilient 43 out of Fairburn's 106 on his 1st XI debut against league champions Leeds Caribbean.
In 2002, Clegg became a fully fledged member of the first team, where he see-sawed in the middle order, securing his first 1st XI 50 against Gawthorpe St Mary's. The day after, Clegg was at it again, playing a large role in Fairburn's 2002 Senior Cup success against Netherton, as he and Ian Jones put on a rapid 50 run opening partnership. In 2006, a year after acting as Paul Clark's vice, Clegg was made captain of Fairburn CC aged 20. In 3 years as skipper, Clegg won 38 of 51 matches in charge as Fairburn achieved 3 consecutive top 3 positions, culminating with a 2008 Division 3 championship success in Fairburn's first year in the PDCL. He stood down at the end of the 2008 season to be replaced by Mark Abdy. During 2007-2008 Clegg was the captain of the LWRCL representative side, where he led the team to 3 semi-finals in 4 competitions, which included a rout of Dales Council for just 23. In 3 seasons in the PDCL Clegg has amassed close to 2000 league runs in 3 solid seasons at the top of the Fairburn order, whilst has taken over 45 victims with the gloves he acquired in 2007. He made his league representative bow with 80 not out in a pre-season trial prior to the 2011 season, before scoring a half century in the league's excellent win over the York Senior CL. Also in 2011 he took his run tally for Fairburn past the 5000 mark. May 2011
