Fairburn were suprised when Skipper Abdy lost the toss and Monk Bretton said they would have a bat on a wet wicket much to the bemusement of the Monk Bretton players all apart from the Captain who had some nags to watch.
Monk Bretton's decision was even more questionable when Fairburn opening bowlers Guy Abdy and Craig Piggott got to work. Abdy got the wicket early on of opener Whitfield caught at gully by Clark for 9 and then when Cotton was bowled playing back to a ball that skidded and kept low and Ogden clean bowled by Piggott in the next over, Monk Bretton found themselves 18-3.
It really was a hit the pitch win a prize kind of wicket and Piggott and Abdy bowled good areas to keep on top. Andrew Clayton who has had some recent good form for the Monks was next to go as he was caught at cover and Bretton 24-4 from 11 overs.
Dixon and young Luke Ogden provided some resistance as Dixon cut loose on a few wide deliveries and Odgen was dogged in defence with only his own personal tallys to bat for.
Guy and Craig picked up 3 wickets a piece from their opening spells before the introduction of the spin twins.
Paul bowled good areas with the exception of one delivery which was a very wide ball and called appropriately. Banerjee, the miserly rabbit hunter that he is bowled 6.5 overs for 6 runs picking up two wickets.
Clark bagged a couple to take his season tally to 39 wickets.
